Abortion

A WORD FOR MY FELLOW AMERICANS- ADDRESSING SOME OF OUR PROBLEMS:

ABORTION:
Human Life begins in the womb at the moment of conception and continues outside the womb after birth. To kill a child in the womb by any mechanism is to destroy an innocent person and the good work God has begun in the creation of the human life. To destroy life in the womb is a great injustice to the innocent person who is harmless. Our Blessed Lord laid it out well in the Golden Rule when He said: “Whatever you wish that others do to you, do so to them” (Mt. 7:12). None of us who has made it out of the womb would wish he/she were aborted in the womb. And, none of us enjoying life at this moment would like his/her life to be terminated by anybody. Therefore, if I would not like my life to be terminated, why should I terminate the life of someone else. Someone who might come into this world to become a better person than I am, and even more important person than I am. My mother gave birth to a human being because she conceived a human being in her womb. To think otherwise is to delude myself. Therefore, to think that when I kill a baby in the womb, I have not killed a human being, is to wallow in self deception.

THE WAR TO END ABORTION:
In 1973, on Jan 22, the Supreme Court gave a ruling in the case of Roe v Wade which forced the remaining states that have not legalized abortion to do so. And so it has been ever since.

Every year many Americans of different walks of life go to Washington, DC, for March for Life. During this event they do silent demonstration and peaceful protest requiring the government to make abortion illegal. It looks as if this can never happen, but what is impossible for man is possible for God, our Blessed Lord told us (Mt.19:26). It took Satan to legalize abortion and it will take God NOT men to undo the works of Satan.

Nevertheless, the people of God who go to Washington to participate in March for life are yet to employ enough spiritual weapons to fight the spiritual battle involved in this warfare. So the question is, what should the people of God do in order to draw down God’s power from above to undo the works of Satan. The power of God is not to be found in the march and neither is it to be found in the placard with different messages we carry along the streets in the Washington, DC.

We Catholics have in our spiritual arsenal the most deadly spiritual weapons with which to devastate the strongholds of Satan in all its twist. What are those deadly spiritual weapons with which to uproot the worst enemy, the devil, and shatter his barricades and strongholds and uncoil the demonic coils around those files in the government offices that have been prepared and signed under the inspiration of the devil to legalize abortion. The weapons include:
1. Holy Mass
2. Eucharistic Adoration
3. Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confessions
4. Rosary Procession

We have already begun to employ some of the spiritual weapons named above but not all of them. We are to recall that when St. Paul was instructing the Ephesians on how to fight principalities and powers he stated quote: “Put on the whole amour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:11-12). The key note here is to put on the WHOLE amour of God and NOT some of the amours. But in this ongoing abortion warfare we seem to be putting on only some amours of God and not the whole of it as St. Paul instructed the Ephesians in the Scriptures. Hence, when we gather for life for march, we only say mass, then do speeches and carry on with our march. This is not enough to uproot the stronghold of Satan.

To put on the whole amour of God as required in this ongoing abortion warfare, when we gather for life for march, we will begin with holy mass as we have been doing. After mass, there will be an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the fruit of the mass. We should adore our Blessed Lord in the Eucharistic exposition because he is the God who is to do the battle for us. Hence, the Scripture says that the battle is the Lord’s battle (1Sm. 17:47; 2Chr. 20:15). It went further to say that “the reason why the Son of God came was to destroy the works of the devil” (1Jn. 3:8). So to expose him in adoration in the battle field is not to be looked upon as something naïve.

Just like the Israelites carried the Arch of Covenant to war zones in the old Testament, so the people of God , the new Israelites today in the new dispensation known as the Christians can also carry the new Arch of Covenant, which is the Blessed Sacrament, to the battle field to fight the devil and destroy his works for us. March for life is a battle in which we encounter the devil and fight to destroy his diabolical works.

During the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which might last up to two hours, priests will make themselves available to hear confessions. Confessions are necessary for the participants because we have gathered to fight sin which abortion is but we cannot carry our own sins to fight another person’s sin(s). If we do we will never be successful in the battle. The devil knows it. Our Blessed Lord said: “Remove the plank in your own eye first so that you would see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye”(Lk. 6:42).

Through confession God would cleanse us of our own sins and reconcile us to Himself and then enables us by the power of His grace at that particular moment to wage a successful battle against the works of the devil which we have gathered in the name of God to demolish. Everybody in attendance might not like to go to confession, but those who would avail themselves with such opportunity will be sufficient enough to boost the whole activities and salt them with divine power because God’s graces and interventions operate more finely in the life of those who receive them in the state of grace. Those who are in union with God fight more ferociously in the spiritual battle field.

During the Eucharistic adoration, there will be Scriptural readings and reflections on the Word of God by different individuals, preferably priests or/and lay people. The extended time enables many more people to go to confession. This religious activity will become a holy event and most pleasing to the Most Holy God since many will be reconciled to Him. And, God Himself will unite with us in the battle against abortion to quicken our victory over the evil one.

After the two hours of Eucharistic adoration, we begin the rosary and candle procession. With our full rosary we employ the assistance of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the battle, she who has conceived in her womb the Son of the Eternal Father, and knows what it means for a woman to abort the child of her very womb. You bet the extent she would go to bring us victory when her maternal assistance is sought by her children. If we do not employ the above outlined four spiritual weapons in our march for life, we might as well do it for the next two centuries without success. Things might even get worse.

One thing we must be sure of is that not all our separated brethren will join us in this spiritual warfare. But we do not need majority to win this war. Few with God undoubtedly will be stronger and more successful than majority without Him. All we need is power from above to assist us in the battle. Our separated brethren can do their own prayers in their own way and those who would like to join us are free and highly welcome. The social speeches will still take place after the Holy mass but will not continue all night. They will be intercepted by the Eucharistic adoration and rosary procession with lighted candles.

The rosary procession should be done in the night because there is less traffic following the same route we follow during our march for life. At the end, all should retire to sleep and get ready for departure. The entire social and spiritual activities all through the night are themselves march for life.

Nevertheless, the march itself with placards may still be held in the day time if we choose to do so, but it is not necessary. It is only a mere show.  If power does not come from above, our march to Washington will be fruitless. But if we have prayed enough to win power from heaven, our march is not needed to change things in the government. It has not been able to change anything because it has no power in itself, sorry to say that. But that is true.

If we follow the proposed pattern consistently each year, it will not be long before the legalization of abortion is revised in the United States of America. There is power in prayer. It is by prayer that we can draw down power from above to change things in our government.
