“How then are they to call on him if they have not come to believe in him? and how can they believe in him if they have never heard of him? And how will they hear of him unless there is a preacher for them? And how will there be preachers if they are not sent? (Rom. 10:14-15).

Jesus came up and spoke to them: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. and look, I am with you always; yes, to the end of time” (Mt. 28: 18-20).

These days we baptise them and bring them into the church but we don’t teach them the Catholic faith. Any priest who does not make out time to go out to teach and catechize the people of God in accordance with the nature of his assigned duties is undoing his very ministry. The people of God entrusted to your care will one day break out against you and persecute you and God will not hold it against them because they will be acting out of ignorance, and therefore acting innocently. They will be acting out of ignorance because they do not know the faith. They do not know their Catholic faith because you have not taught them. What I am saying is already manifesting in different shapes and disguises all over the world.

There are no half measures. Either we do the work well or we don’t and pay the prices in one way or the other (cf. Mal. 2:7-9).
